chocolate birthday cake

today we had a special birthday dinner for my youngest little guy i look after and i got to make his birthday cake :D so after making a chocolate cake like he wanted i asked him if he wanted red, yellow, blue or green frosting when he replied purple - only a three year would give an answer like that.

i love this recipe, its so easy and produces a cake that is lovely and chocolatey, so if you want to give it a try here's the recipe. let me know what you guys think :D

recipe from http://www.cacaoweb.net

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup melted butter
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 deg F (Gas mark 4 or 180 deg C) Grease a 9 inch (23 cm) cake tin. Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar and vanilla essence in a bowl. Melt the butter at low heat and add to the dry ingredients. Also add milk and eggs. Mix everything together until smooth, either by hand or by using an electric mixer at slow speed. Transfer to bake tin and bake at 350 degrees until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, approximately 35 to 45 minutes.

i always frost my cakes with coloured vanilla frosting made of 1/2 cup soften butter, 4 1/2 cups confectioners sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and 5 tablespoons milk all whisked till very smooth with an electric mixer. add on top of cakes and enjoy :D
