all my love for all my days guest post

Hello there.
My name is Danette and I blog at All My Love for All My Days.  Jessica asked me a group of us to guest post for her while she was hanging out with her friend and I was happy to post.
Thank you, Jessica, for the opportunity.

Today I want to share a craft with you that can be used for many different occasions.  With the holidays quickly approaching this I know this could knowledge could really come in handy.  It seems to me that the little details are what make events over the top special.  This one will help put your table scape or party favors or guest rooms over the top.

Here's what you need.

  • random but coordinating colors/patterns of 8 1/2 x 11 scrapbook paper
  • glue
  • scissors
  • hole punch
  • embellishments
  • juke, yarn, or ribbon

Step #1--Line one side of the paper with glue or double side tape.  I chose Elmer's Glue Spots.  They're permanent and very convenient.  There's no dry time.

Step #2--Roll the paper, starting on the corner opposite your tape.  Roll into a cone.  It will be very similar to an ice cream cone.

Step #3--At this point we need to clip the tail off of the cone.  If you would like, leave the tail on and fold over the opening of the cone.  This might would come in handy if you are filling the cone with small objects such as nuts.

Step #4--Punch holes on the side and run your jute/yarn/ribbon through.

Step #5--Personally, I find this last step to be the most fun.  Embellish your cones.

And voilĂ !  There you have it.

Thank you again, Jessica, for the opportunity to guest post.  I know I appreciate the opportunity.  If you're looking for more ideas on Holiday entertain read here, here, and here.  Oh, and I have a giveaway happening right now.  Enter here.

i heart halloween

one of the many things americans do amazingly well is halloween. i loved halloween at home in england but i love it in the states even more. here there is no age limit to the holiday and everything is done over the top-ly and extravagantly.

this halloween we carved pumpkins, made halloween decorations, bought way too much candy for trick or treaters and made halloween costumes (a witch for me and a teddy bear, harry potter and a vampire for the boys). so seeign as i am enjoying it so much i thought i would make it my loving lately post for rachel's link up over at la la lists and share with you guys a couple of photos from the holiday :)

pinterest is deadly, i saw these gorgeous candy corn cookies on there the other day and just had to try them. i used this cookie recipe and then dyed the dough in three parts to make the three colours seen in candy corn. then i layered the dough in a container and sliced the dough before cutting the cookies :)

the other great thing about halloween is the costumes and the outrageous make up we can get away with for the night. when i was younger i dressed up as a vampire and a fairy but this year i was sucked in by the stripy tights of a witch. i love some of these looks and may have to get the face paints out to see what i can create :D hope you guys have an amazing halloween!!!

the framed lady guest post

for day one of my little blogging holiday i am handing the reins over to tess or the framed lady as she is otherwise known :) she can't wait to show you her recipe for a yummy caramel apple pie, sounds like a little bit of heaven is going to be in the oven if you guys bake it. one of my favourite things about living in the states is your guys pies, i have sampled since being here and omg they are fab, my top three being pumpkin, apple and blueberry :D be sure to let us know how your pies turn out and make sure you stop by the framed lady blog, it is fab!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I made this super delicious caramel apple pie the other day. It was absolutely delicious. I don't even want to tarnish its deliciousness with an attempted description. Instead, I'll just tell you how to make it.

But first, let me rant about how stupidly difficult and frustrating it is to try to make your own pie crust. Just buy it. Seriously. Buy it.

First, prepare your ingredients.

2 pie crusts (I used Marie Callendar's frozen).
3 apples, cored, peeled, and very thinly sliced
Juice of 1/2 a lemon

1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg (just a pinch)
1/3 cup sugar
2 Tbsp flour

1/2 jar of Smuckers' caramel sauce (you could make your own, but really, I'm all about cutting corners)
Sea salt for sprinkling
1 egg, beaten

Allow one pie crust to thaw while you prepare the filling. Keep the other one frozen. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375 F.

Toss the sliced apples in a bowl with the lemon juice. This prevents browning and adds extra flavor.

Mix the cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and flour, then pour over apples and mix to coat evenly.

Remove the frozen pie crust. In the frozen crust, layer 1/3 of the apples so that there are minimal gaps. Drizzle 1/3 of the caramel over the apples. Layer another 1/3 of apples, then caramel, then apples, then caramel.

Pull the thawed crust out of the tin, and flatten on a clean, floured surface. You could do a lattice like I did, which is sort of difficult and time consuming, or you could cut shapes out and place them on the top of the pie. You could even just place the whole crust on top of the pie. If you do that, just make sure to cut several vent holes. Drizzle any remaining caramel over the crust, then sprinkle sea salt to your heart's content!

Brush the beaten egg over the pie crust. This gives the crust a beautiful golden brown color as it cooks.

Place pie on a cookie sheet to catch any overflow. Bake in 375 oven for 20 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350 and cook for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

The caramel will be runny, so the pie will be very saucy. I recommend serving with vanilla bean ice cream.

It would also be amazing with some melted cheddar cheese, cinnamon ice cream, or whipped cream! What's your favorite kind of pie, and accompaniments for pie?

I hope you guys feel inspired to go make some Fall pies! If you liked this recipe and are interested, go check out my blog The Framed Lady! You'll find more recipes, blogging and networking tips, tutorials, link-ups, and my musings.

currently...

reading - this should really say rereading as i am reading twenties girl by sophie knisella for the second time. as my current book collection relies mainly on goodwill and the local library because i don't want to spend money on books and not be able to take them home, so i was really happy when i found this little gem. i love all sophie kinsella books and this one is no exception, it has a chic lit theme but with a little supernatural twist and a throw back to the 1920's!! love :)

watching - anything on the cw. i am loving vampire diaries (honestly being sucked in big time by this season's storyline), 90210, supernatural, nikita, gossip girl (as if its the last season!!!) and the new beauty and the beast. best thing is that there is something on every night for me to watch and if i miss anything i'm playing catch up on the weekends. what am i going to do when they all finish :s

eating - candy corn. i am addicted to the little american sweetie/candy. i received a lovely little packet of them the other week and they have been sitting on my desk slowly disappearing daily. i cannot get enough and with halloween just around the corner i hoping to get some more trick or treating with the boys :)

drinking - mint tes. yes the english girl has finally found out that she likes tea whilst living in america lol my mum will be so proud lol i cannot get enough of the fresh taste of mint tea in the morning, it really helps me wake up, or maybe thats just the caffeine, either way starts the morning off a lot better

wearing - ankle boots not stop. seriously it seems the second the weather took a colder turn i forgot i owned anything else but ankle boots, i have a couple of pairs that i have worn non-stop for the last two weeks; a flat tan pair with a buckle detail and a pair of slouchy grey ones. next on my to buy list a pair of black heeled ones, ooh the outfits i would wear with them :)

listening to - taylor swifts new album red. i cannot get enough of her music on a normal day but this time round her album is even more amazing than usual! i knew you were trouble is such a great song and a little different from her others, plus i can't help but thinking of a few people when i listen to it lol.

anticipating - my best friend's arrival in 2 days!!! yes i am on the countdown. she and her boyfriend will finally be in seattle on monday, aaaaaaaahhhhhhh excited doesn't even come close. we have so many plans and so much to fit into just one week, including halloween american style, forks road trip for the twilight buffs and a seahawks game to keep the boyfriend happy lol

wishing - christmas would hurry up and get here!!! i cannot wait to decorate the christmas tree, wrap presents, put up twinkly lights and eat mince pies. it probably doesn't help that i received a christmas present in the post this week, early i know but my family are very organised lol but it did have a huge sticker on it that said "this parcel will blow up if opened before the 25th december!!!" lol :)

just a random little post from me today, hope you all are having a fab weekend :D thanks to katrina from the demure muse for inspiring this post :D

the patchwork marriage

took me forever to finish this book as i have been so busy recently but i finally finished one day while the boys were playing at the park and i have to say my mum choices of book for are just getting better. again i had heard of the author, jane green, but had never read anything by her so i didn't know what to expect when i started this one.

the story follows a family who don't get on at the best of times. ethan and andi marry and hope to make the perfect family with his two children sophia and emily while waiting for their own baby to happen. as with good story things don't happen the way they want it to and when a major event shakes things up even more the family have some serious rearranging to do.

i loved this book, mainly because its not written from just one point of view, we the reader hear from andi, ethan and emily's point of view, as well as a few others, so that we get a different perspective on the situations in their lives. the patchwork marriage is full of drama, tears and a little laughter with  loveable happy ending :)

this is the perfect book if you are looking for book version of a soap opera, think lots of family drama and feuds. i loved it and hope you guys liked my review of it. today i'm linking up with heather over at blonde undercover blonde for her book club link up :) i am also having my first ever giveaway here on the lily white english rose. but tomorrow is your last chance to enter so hurry hurry!! :) enter if you want the chance to win a selection of all my favourite beauty bits including maybelline mascara, elf lipsticks and wet n wild eyeshadows!! click here to enter :D

jade is the new black

i am slowly becoming a huge fan of opi :) as i have said before i am an essie addict through and through but that may change as opi is firmly set in second place now and may even be approaching first. this is my latest find, when my sister came to the states we went for pedicures and i had this colour on my nails. it is an amazing shade but the thing that really got me was how well and how long it lasts. i had no chips after 3 weeks and only took it off because i fancied a change not because of the usual reason of the state of the polish.

jade is the new black is a gorgeous forest green a colour i love for fall. it very opaque on the nails after just 2 thin coats and the colour is so bold and full it really stands out. i am definitely going to be on the look out for more opi colours :D

have guys entered my first ever giveaway? you could win a selection of all me favourite beauty bits including maybelline mascara, elf lipsticks and wet n wild eyeshadows, tomorrow is the last day for entries, so if you haven't why not lol :p (click here to enter) for this post i am linking up with the nail files by my vickilicious life and fabulous but evil, as well as mani monday :D

the truth about curls

if i was being totally honest the thing that i usually let slip is hair care. i know shocking right but unless i'm going out i am a hair up in a pony tail kind girl and i sometimes go months without a trim. yes my hair hates me for it but i haven't really ever had a love of hair care whether its products or care. so i made a decision to change this, one of my new goals is to concentrate on my hair a little more.

so when i saw a trial sample set on the new line by paul mitchell i knew that it would be a good start to my new hair care plans. the theme of the brand is the truth about curls, concentrating on getting women to work with what god gave them and flaunt their natural curls. my hair is long and has a natural wave to it. i would love a product that emphasises that so was really excited by the claims of the paul mitchell curls line.

firstly seeing as this was a free sample i was so impressed with what i got. 3 mini tubes of three different products. the first was the spring loaded detangling shampoo, this was lovely! it made my hair really soft and even after towel drying i could see the curl in my hair better already. i was also surprised at how much it detangled my hair, normally conditioner only does this. next is the full circle leave-in treatment that i applied after slightly drying it. i loved this too, i loved that it didn't weigh my curls down and really softened my hair and it smelt so nice, just like after a salon visit. the final step was the ultimate wave beachy texture cream gel. unfortunately this was the one product i didn't like, after all the softening the other two products did i was really disappointed that this just harden it again. it was much more like gel and after i diffuse dried my hair was very crunchy.

overall i was impressed with this range, not only for the amazing size of the samples i received but also how great the shampoo and leave in treatment were, i may even embrace my curls more often lol. today i'm linking up with rachel over at la la lists for her loving lately link up with kristen, carly and niki and sharing my love of curls this week. so tell me do you rock your curls?

don't forget to enter my first ever giveaway!! you could win a parcel full of beauty bits that i love, click here to enter :D

ballet slippers

so a bit of my clean freak nature raised its head the other day and i have sorted out my nail polish into summer and winter shades, the summer ones are now in a lovely little box so that i have way more space on my dresser. seems that my fall/winter colours are split into 3 definite styles; darks, glitters and neutrals. this little gem sits firmly in the neutrals section.

essie ballet slippers is a very sheer baby pink, as the name would suggest very ballet-esque. it is a gorgeous shade but unlike the other essie colours i have tried (little bit essie obsessed so quite a few lol) it needs a good three coats to be opaque and because i like a really solid colour without even a hint of a streak i even went as far as applying a fourth. faffy? hell yes! but the colour is just so lovely i couldn't not do it lol and if i have an entire evening free i would put this aside to apply this colour lol so the manicure takes forever but i am in love with the colour so for me its worth it lol.

i'm sharing my love of ballet slippers with the nail files from tara and vicki over at fabulous but evil and my vickilicious life and with manicure monday :D

anthropologie

i literally have enough jewellery to sink a battleship as the old saying goes but i am a magpie at heart and just love me some sparkle. the latest store to get on my radar for its bling is anthropologie. their pieces are gorgeous and so so pretty.

they include a lot of jewels in their pieces some real and some not so which is how they have such a range in price in their pieces but i am in love. the little pearl earrings are so on my list and so is the wrap watch :D they also produce a lot of statement pieces that once you add them to an outfit just take it up a notch.

i couldn't resist sharing these for the current crush thursday link up with britt and danielle over at the yellow umbrella and framed frosting :D
